Job Description – Business Intelligence Manager (Data & Analytics)

Mission of the Role:

Apex is looking for a Business Intelligence Manager who is eager to help build a world-class data and analytics organization. This individual will own the full BI product lifecycle, from stakeholder intake through final delivery, and serve as the primary liaison between the business and the Data & Analytics team. This individual would be responsible for (i) partnering with leaders across Finance, Marketing, Operations, and People Ops to understand what decisions need to be made and translating that into data and dashboard requirements, (ii) working closely with the data team to ensure the right models are in place to support reporting needs, (iii) leading a team of BI developers across concurrent workstreams with clarity and accountability, and (iv) growing into a genuine thought partner on how Apex uses data to run and grow the business.

In the near term, this role is about delivery, earning trust by shipping great work, building reliable processes, and becoming the analytics partner that functional leaders want to call. Over time, as the BI function matures, this person will have a real seat at the table on data strategy. The right candidate is someone who lives at the intersection of strategy and technology, sharp enough to shape how the business thinks about reporting, and technical enough that the data and development team genuinely respects them.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for functional stakeholders to intake, prioritize, and manage the BI product lifecycle.
  • Lead discovery with business stakeholders by asking the right questions, managing scope, and translating reporting needs into clear data and dashboard requirements.
  • Partner with the data team on semantic model development, providing well-structured requirements and validating that models support the analytical needs of the business.
  • Lead a team of BI developers, including offshore resources, as a player/coach — setting direction and developing the team while staying close enough to the work to maintain credibility.
  • Manage multiple concurrent BI projects without losing momentum by maintaining clear priorities, clean communication, and consistent follow-through.
  • Own QA end-to-end; nothing ships until accuracy and usability have been verified.
  • Drive self-service analytics adoption by giving stakeholders the tools and training to answer their own questions.
  • Contribute to the long-term BI roadmap as the function and the business continue to scale.

Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or relevant field.
  • 7+ years of experience in Business Intelligence, Analytics, or a related field — including meaningful time as both an individual contributor and a project or team lead.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple fast-paced, concurrent projects simultaneously.
  • Background in a consulting or client-facing analytics environment (e.g., Big 4, strategy & technology consulting) is strongly preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in Power BI, including report design, data modeling, and DAX; expert-level skills are a plus.
  • Strong proficiency in SQL and data model design that allows for comfortable collaboration with a data engineering team
  • Experience managing or coordinating with offshore or third-party development resources.
  • Familiarity with Snowflake and dbt is a plus.
  • Experience in a high-growth environment is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Azure or Microsoft Fabric is a plus.

Personal Characteristics:

  • Lives at the intersection of strategy and technology — can shape a conversation with a CFO and then turn around and earn the respect of an engineer.
  • Analytical — finds meaning in numbers and pushes for data-driven decisions even when it's uncomfortable.
  • Exceptional communicator — written and oral; says the right thing to the right audience without losing substance.
  • Thrives managing multiple workstreams in a fast-moving environment; doesn't need perfect information to make a call.
  • High standards — holds the team and the work to a bar that reflects well on the function.
  • Strong work ethic with a demonstrated history of outworking peers.
  • Resourceful — figures out how to get things done with what's in front of them.
  • Thrives in a nimble, lean, unstructured, fast-paced entrepreneurial environment.
  • Works collaboratively and energetically; lifts the people around them.
  • Impeccable integrity and ethical standards.
  • Self-aware, accepting, honest, open, and respectful of others.
